Older Mind Matters

May and June fly by!

This is a rather late update but I have been working hard on reports for three of the projects I'm involved in with the University and they have soaked up lots of time.

We've started running some more carer training courses at Approach (that's where I've been today) and I think I am making progress with the PhD thesis (but time will tell!)

Over the past few months I've also written several chapters and an updated one on dementia care in the community, written jointly with Ian Greaves, has just been published in the Dementia Handbook.

I've also done quite a few presentations/ workshops/ lectures over the past couple of months. In May I chaired a conference in London (Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults in Hospitals) and I've have been asked to speak at a forthcoming conference on Safeguarding in Hospitals in Manchester in September. Link to the conference information here.

So - this is what a blog looks like - I have heard of them and wondered. I gather people do it quite a lot. Presumably other people latch on and follow stories which interest or amuse them.

Good to catch up with you and briefly with Aled and this full-size hound yesterday and to meet with you and Anna at the dementia in the community conference at the Botanical Gardens last week. From that and from the Care Homes Congress it is clear there is HUGE interest in training and educational courses. This is good and encouraging, though I am not sure I can live easily with the formal academic delivery and assessment of everything. Apprenticeship suited me ( find you don't have a spell-check on here - best mind me spelling!).
I like the idea of doing something with Anna on comparing the experience of visual impairment/blindness with memory loss/dementia. We'll see if she is interested

Well this is interesting it just so happens I have the task of organising a support group on the dementia ward at Bushet Fields hospital, and what do I find all the information I need on this web site, thank you Susan.

Like David I like these blogs it excercises the fingers all I have to do now is find an excercise for the brain, perhaps musical bingo may help
